Dominican Carlos Tatis (45 years old) arrived in Romania in 2009 where he found his soulmate, and since 2011 he has settled in Brașov.
He intends to launch baseball in Brașov and founded Grizzlies Brașov Baseball, the first baseball club in the city below Tâmpa
baseball, one of the most beloved sports in the United States of America, also arrived in Brașov. Long live the Dominican Republic.
The promoter of this sport in Brașov is Carlos Tatis, a former amateur athlete from the Dominican Republic who has been living in Brașov for 12 years. Carlos, nicknamed "Higuita" after the legendary Colombian goalkeeper "El Loco" Rene Higuita, recently founded a club, Grizzlies Brașov Baseball.
He has already started the project in Brașov with eight children.
"I am convinced that baseball will catch on in Brașov"
"Higuita" from Brașov, an incurable optimist, says that baseball will also be loved by Romanians.
"I have been passionate about baseball since I was little and I played from the age of 6 until I was 20. In the Dominican Republic, baseball is the most popular sport. I am convinced that when basseball becomes more popular, it will also catch on in Brașov.
I heard that after 1990 there was a baseball project in Săcele. I set out to launch this sport in Brașov and I am convinced that baseball will catch on here as well. At the end of this month, the club's documents will be released to the Court.
I got in touch with the people from the Romanian Baseball Federation, they were really responsive and gave me all the support.
We started with eight children. Now we do one training session, Saturday morning from 10.00 to 12.00.
The little ones are curious, it's something new and they think it's an interesting sport. We have a Facebook and Instagram page, we can be found very easily. In the future, we can also have a senior team in Brașov.
We want to develop, perhaps with the support of the City Hall. It is a good field in the Tractorul Park, maybe we will be allowed to prepare there too", says Carlos Tatis.
